Lesson 18
For a kid actor first rehearsals are always a little nerve-racking. You are going to be meeting people that you have never seen before, and you will probably be with them for a few months. And since I am an experienced actor I try to help other kids “fit in”. So on the first day of Billy Elliot I walked into the lounge, where all the kids in the show would be. I already new some of them from other shows and was comfortable chatting. But it was not so easy for some. So I walked over to a girl sitting on a stool by the door and asked her what her name was. She told me hers and I introduced myself, and we sat and talked for a bit. Later after we got the pep-talk for the show and stuff like that. We were allowed to go and talk to some new people. So I talked to some actors I new for a bit then moved on. Then I found my new friend walking around not knowing what to do so I got her and found a person that I had never met before and introduced us both. Fast-forward to the end of the season when everyone knew everyone. I received a few gifts and letters from cast-mates and I read them on my drive home. And one of them was from that girl. It said how she really appreciated me introducing her to people at the beginning of the season (which was 9 months ago) and making her feel comfortable and fit in. People remember these kinds of things even when you don’t and it was really nice to see a letter like that.
